Types of sandwich panels and their application in building

Sandwich panels are often used in construction multifunctional material, which is based on 3 main layers: two outer cladding (often metal, but other material can be used) and internal insulation. They are connected with each other by a special glue or filling material. Today, sandwich panels are very often used in the construction industry, and all this is due to the fact that they have excellent thermal insulation properties, easy to install, as well as lightweight and durable.

Types of sandwich panels are distinguished according to the following categories:

By type of exterior cladding:

  • Metal panels: Cladding made of galvanized steel, aluminum or other metals. They are quite strong and durable.
  • Fabric panels: Made of fiberglass or fiberglass, they are used in specific environments that require chemical resistance or special treatment.

By type of insulation:

  • Mineral wool: Widely used basalt fiber insulation, good protection against cold and noise.
  • Polyurethane foam (PU): Provides excellent insulation and lightweight construction.
  • Extruded polystyrene foam (XPS): Has high density and water repellent properties.

By type of panel connection:

  • Joint with embedded connectors: A more traditional type of joint where embedded parts are used to secure the panels.
  • Concealed fixing: Creates a smoother surface as the fasteners are hidden inside the panels.

Applications of sandwich panels in building:

Industrial structures:

  • Warehouses and storage facilities: Due to the ease of installation and good insulation, sandwich panels are widely used for storage facilities.
  • Production halls: The strength and ability to provide quality insulation have allowed sandwich panels to take their place of honor in the construction industry.

Residential and commercial buildings:

  • Building facades: Sandwich panels are used for facade cladding due to the variety of finishing materials available.
  • Structural elements of buildings: They can be used as wall and roofing systems.

Transportation and containers:

  • Vehicles: Sandwich panels are widely used in the production of motor vehicles and in particular - buses, railway cars, as well as trucks.
  • Containers: They are used to create containers for various purposes, in this case their strength and insulation characteristics are especially appreciated.

Sandwich panels are a versatile solution for various construction tasks due to their adaptability, ease of installation and ability to combine different materials to achieve optimal performance in different environments. Their wide application makes them a key element in modern construction.
